Weight Loss Tip:

Be Aware of the Buffet!

(By: Kimberly A. Tessmer, RD LD)

Buffet or all-you-can-eat restaurants are popping up everywhere.  These buffets tend to make you feel like you have to taste it ALL!  A little of this and a little of that can add up to quick calorie overload!  When eating out opt to ban the buffet or if you have no choice than limit yourself to how many items you will choose.  Take a good look at what is available and then make your choices carefully!  Watch portion sizes and don't make that second trip!

Study: Kids Eating More Fast Food Outside the Home

(By: Kimberly A. Tessmer, RD LD)

The number and the frequency of American children that are dining on fast foods and other restaurant-served fried foods is increasing at an alarming rate.  Harvard researchers have found the number of children who regularly eat meals outside the home has more than doubled during the three years of a study conducted on more than 14,000 adolescents from 1996 to 1999.  This is leading to unhealthy eating habits as well as weight gain and health problems.  The study highlights the importance of early intervention with children and the role that parents must take to ensure their children and the whole family is eating a healthier diet and doing it together.

Shop to Drop!

(By: Kimberly A. Tessmer, RD LD)

Add exercise to your grocery shopping list!  It is a great way to burn calories without even realizing it!  Walk to the grocery store if it is close enough and you just have a few bags to buy.  Carry your child instead of using the stroller or grocery cart!  Have enough to fit in a basket, then carry the basket with your groceries in it instead of using the easier shopping cart.  Believe it or not squeezing in just small bits of activity, whenever you have the opportunity, can add up to a big difference in how you look and feel.  Don't always take the easy way out!
